Project: Application of gamma-H2AX foci as marker of DNA double strand breaks and repair in contemporary radiotherapy

After optimization as biomarker of early biological effects gamma-H2AX foci in lymphocytes and fibroblasts will be applied in the investigation of the following research topics in radiotherapy: risk for secondary neoplasms induced by intensity modulated radiotherapy, impact of the bystander effect in radiotherapeutic treatments, LET dependence of the repair kinetics of DNA double strand breaks at different oxygen concentrations, genotype-phenotype association between polymorphisms in DNA repair genes and repair of DNA double strand breaks in radiotherapy patients with radiopathology.
