Project: Oxidation of reduced compounds in aquatic sediment by means of microbial fuel cell configurations

project duration
01-OCT-05 – 30-SEP-09
Microbial fuel cells will be used to oxidize reduced compounds in aquatic sediments and simultaneously generate electrical current. The microbial fuel cell decreaeses the sediment stratification. Eligible electron donors encompass aside from carbon compounds also ammonium, sulfides, … Research focueses onto the optimal design of the reactor components, microbial communities will be selectively enriched and the occurring processes analysed.
