Project: Technico/economical optimisation of fire safety measures in European cultural heritage.

2001-01-01 – 2002-12-31

Abstract

The financial means available for the protection of cultural heritage against fire are limited. In order to assist the authorities when deciding on priorities, a mathematical model needs to be developed. This model will identify the projects where the most efficient use can be made of the available financial resources. During the project, initially, evaluation parameters will be develoeped to evaluate the value of the cultural heritage, the fire-risk, the cost of the fire protection and its efficiency. The evaluation parameters are then combined in a global optimisation model. This is completed by a sensitivity analyse. The foregoing has to demonstrate the feasibility of a European research project on the subject. The study is complemented by some case studies.
