Project: Modelling and control of biological systems - Application to the Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR)
- project duration
- 01-JAN-03 – 31-DEC-04
- The Pollution Research Group (South Africa) is currently developing an Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR) for sanitation in densely populated peri-urban areas (Water Research Commission project No. 1672). To fully realise the potential of the ABR for treating domestic effluent under these conditions, existing operating data from pilot and laboratory-scale reactors should be incorporated into a model so that the hydraulic and biochemical interactions in the ABR can be better understood, and the effect of differences in operation of field ABRs from the laboratory and pilot-scale installations may be predicted.
