Project: Identification of physiological and genetic profiles representative of zinc tolerance in Daphnia magna (Crustacea: Cladocera)

- the objective of this research is to identify mechanisms and key genes that are responsible for metal homeostasis and acclimation/adaptation and which can be used to distinguish metal sensitive and tolerant populations. Physiological endpoints are electrolyte and zinc turnover, and metallothionein induction. Gene induction will be monitored by subtractive hybridisation and real time PCR. Field validations will be performed.
