Project: Analysis of Contemporary Artist's Paints via Micro-Raman Spectroscopy.

project duration
16-DEC-00 – 30-SEP-01
The spectroscopic investigation of the materials used in objects of ar t provides information that is of use for conservators and keepers of contemporary museum collections. Micro-Raman spectroscopy is used for the non-destructive analysis of painted artefacts. A spectroscopic database of refe rence spectra for modern pigments as well as synthetic binding media will be established, in order to be able to identify the materials in modern paintings. Degradation of binding media and pigments will be studied by using micro-Raman spectroscopy and the molecular processes will be identified.
