Project: Implementation of Monte Carlo dose calculation in the optimization algorithm of biological image guided intensity modulated radiotherapy of lung cancer

- Dose escalation in radiotherapy can improve significantly the prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, this requires biological image guided intensity modulated radiotherapy (BIG-IMRT), allowing a focussed dose escalation based on biologically relevant imaging. The project will deal with the introduction of Monte Carlo simulation of the therapy as dose calculation algorithm and with the elaboration of the transformation of the image information in the dose prescription within the planning target volume.
