Project: Study of inorganic solids exhibiting new thermo-mechanical properties.

2000-10-01 – 2004-09-30

Abstract

A growing group op solid state materials show the unusual property of lattice contraction as a function of increasing temperature. Those materials with so called negative thermal expansion (NTE) have a high technological value, especially when used in composites to tailor overall thermal expansion. This study deals with those NTE materials in order to further unravel the phenomenon and to create a perspective for the use of those materials in composites.
