Project: Integrated physico-chemical and microbiological monitoring of biological waste gas treatment systems with immobilised biomass (BAG).

- Initially, the monitoring of biological waste gas treatment systems with immobilised biomass will be performed using biomass carrier materials with well defined characteristics with regard to available surface area, particle size, porosity (glass pearls, Rashig rings). Physico-chemical as well as microbiological parameters will be monitored and correlated with the removal performance of these BAG for the volatiles toluene and dimethyl sulfide. Out of these data, a selection of those parameters allowing on-line monitoring of the BAG will be made. In a second phase, this set of selected parameters will be tested and validated in a more heterogenous BAG system (biofilter or membrane reactor).
