Project: Investigating the role of serotonin in the pathogenesis of autism using 5HT2A-SPECT, correlated with serotonin (receptor) determinations in blood, in boys with normal IQ between 6 and 17 years old.
- project duration
- 01-OCT-03 – 30-SEP-07
- Autism is a pervasive, invalidating neuropsychiatric disorder for which a neurobiological cause is suggested based on documented disturbed brain functions and serotonergic neurotransmission. Therefore the postsynaptic serotonergic function will be investigated by means of 5HT2A-SPECT compared with periferal serotonergic dysfunction as assessed by means of serotonin (receptor) function in bloodplatelets.
