Project: Interaction of NO with other neurotransmitters and role of NO in physiopathological processes in the gastro-intestinal tract.
- project duration
- 01-MAY-96 – 31-DEC-00
- Nitric oxide (NO) is an important neurotransmitter in the gastrointestinal tract, inhibiting the smooth muscle cells. The interaction with the established neurotransmitters vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, noradrenaline and acetylcholine is investigated. The role of NO in the gastrointestinal relaxation during vomiting and in the gastrointestinal problems (nausea, vomiting, prolonged intestinal transit), occuring during pregnancy, is also studied.
