Project: Investigation into the dominance of elements of Sorokin's 'ideational' and 'sensate' cultures in temporarily successive schools in the visual arts. Contribution to dialectical theories of change in the arts.
- project duration
- 01-JAN-01 – 31-OCT-03
- Based on Sorokin's general theory of social change, this project examines the existence of features of sensate and ideational cultures in successive styles in the visual arts since the Renaissance. Furthermore, the occurence of a cyclical patern of dominance of one of these two cultures in successive and styles will be investigated. Data are collected using qualitative content analysis of articles in art history reference works and will be analysed using confirmatory factor analysis and analysis of variance.
