Project: Investigation of the uremic toxins responsible for the early atherogenesis and chronic inflammation in renal failure

project duration
01-JAN-03 – 10-JAN-07
abstract
It will be evaluated, via a systematic, experimental approach, which uremic retention solutes are playing a role in uremic inflammation, atherogenesis and impaired immune response. Primarily a fast screening of a broad panel of uremic solutes will be performed, followed by a search for the pathphysiological mechanisms. A broad spectrum of aspects playing a role in atherogenesis, vascular disease and immunomodulation will be covered, thanks to a consortium of European investigation teams. Our group will concentrate on testsystems evaluting the effect on the function and respons of granulocytes/monocytes.
