- I am professor in the Photonics Research Group at Ghent University - imec. My research focuses on the design challenges for large-scale photonics integration, and its application for general-purpose reconfigurable photonic ICs. I graduated in engineering (applied physics) at Ghent University in 1998, and joined the photonics research group at Ghent University / IMEC as a PhD student. My PhD revolved around the design and fabrication of silicon photonic devices, and I graduated in April 2004. My research led to many collaborations to combine nanophotonic designs into multi-project wafer runs in IMEC, from which emerged the silicon photonics platform ePIXfab. Between 2000 and 2010 I coordinated the development of this technology platform between the research group in Ghent and the process technology teams in IMEC. In 2014 I co-founded the spin-off company Luceda Photonics, which provides design tools for integrated photonics, based on the code developed at Ghent University.
