- Arjan Zuiderhoek is an ancient historian who specializes in Greco-Roman urban history. He has worked primarily on the socio-political and socio-economic history of Greek cities under the Roman empire, but also has a strong interest in the Greek city in earlier periods, and in broader socio-economic themes such as labour relations, inequality and social conflicts in the ancient world. He is Full Professor of Ancient History at the Department of History of Ghent University. He studied Greek and Roman history at the Universities of Groningen and Cambridge. In 2006, he obtained his PhD at the University of Groningen. Before his current post, he was Junior Research Fellow at Homerton College, Cambridge, and, subsequently, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of Ancient History at Ghent University.
